CASE MODEL

Exploring “Reading”–
the nature of an E-book.

New Model of E-book Application, 2012/09, Book Index

We designed a new application which focuses on “reading books deeply” whereas many applications such as iBooks or Kindle which offer the user casual reading experience appear on the market.

Respecting the Asset of Physical Books as much as Possible

Casual reading and elaborate reading

Our development is oriented from examination in “the trace of outworn books read repeatedly”.
After people read books again and again, there will be a lot of dog ears, memos, stickies and marked lines. That means, reading paper books carefully can be said physical interaction such as approaching books itself or looking up into the dictionary.

Reading paper book +α
“Expanding a reading experience”.

The challenge of this project is “expanding a reading experience” (rather than make reading easy –). In addition to replicate the various experience with analog books, we endeavored to implement some functions which can be realized only with digital gadgets.

Outside of a book

As the books are compared to the universe, there expands a vast world outside écriture as well.
In the process of reading, what sort of actions does exist? It begins with purchase or rental. The reviews or wraparound band will provide you an information before starting to read – after reading, some will organize what he or she learned, and some analyze the contents, and will share their thinks.

As the books are compared to universe, there expands a vast world outside écriture as well.

The practice of architecture and visual

In order to design the “inside” and “outside” of the book, we sorted out the process from <to choose a book> to <after reading> and rearranged them. It is important to realize a seamless user interface, and we aimed at offering comfortable understanding by structuring the functions and the layers within the application.

Dramatic structure push the project forward as it helps for reading.

From the “meeting with the ideal book”
to “after reading”

After coming of book readers with which the user can bring a thousand of books and read them whatever the occasion, the nature of reading is gradually changing.
Book Index is a prototype which helps the user to read book more elaborately remaining retaining the assets of paper book. This application explorers “convenience” as well as an “expansion of reading” throughout digital, and is designed to be specialized in treatise and academic books. The details of function are explained below.
